How to Choose Battery for Mechanical Equipment and Variable Voltage Equipment

Posted by Truman Atwood on

What kind of battery we should choose has always been a headache for novice friends because of a variety of batteries on the market today. Perhaps you think that the battery should directly select high discharge performance and that's enough as many people thought. discharge capacity and capacity is the principle of the majority of people who will consider important reference indicators when choosing the battery. These two parameters are inversely proportional - the greater the capacity, the lower the discharge capacity and the stronger the discharge capacity and the lower the capacity.

So which one is more important, endurance or performance? Today, I will popularize the usage of batteries to everyone. how to choose the right battery according to your own equipment and to avoid excess or waste of battery capacity and performance.

Usually, we use the 18650 battery. Voltage is 4.2V when fully charged, and the stable voltage is at 3.7V. (There are some special materials such as lithium iron phosphate battery voltage is 3.2V. We only talk about 3.7V lithium battery which is more commonly used in this passage) The voltage applied to the nebulizer when using the mechanical mod is the voltage of the battery itself. Unlike the voltage regulator, the output voltage can be adjusted.

There are two most important parameters of batteries, one is the capacity to provide endurance capacity, and the other is the maximum continuous discharge current to limit the output capacity. The higher the capacity, the higher the internal resistance of the battery, so these two are usually inversely proportional.

In the field of e-cigarettes, the user's ability to discharge the battery is usually based on the current unit "A". Many friends often find that the parameters of the battery are not marked with "A" when purchasing the battery. You can see the value of "C".

In fact, in the battery industry, the battery performance is usually expressed by “C”, not our common xxA, what is “C”? “C” refers to the discharge rate, which is the battery capacity and discharge flow rate. ratio. That is: charge/discharge rate = charge/discharge current/rated capacity.

For example, when a battery with a rated capacity of 1000 Ah is discharged at 20 A, its discharge rate is 2 C, and it can be discharged at 20 times its own capacity (1 A).

Battery discharge C rates of 1C, 2C, 0.2C, etc. represent the discharge rate of the battery, indicating a measure of the speed of discharge. The used capacity of 1-hour discharge is completed, called 1C discharge, 5 hours discharge is completed, it is called 1/5 = 0.2C discharge. The battery capacity can generally be detected by different discharge currents. For the 2400mah battery, the 2C discharge current is 48A and the 0.5C discharge current is 12A.

First, how to select the battery for the mechanical mod?

Mechanical fans most concerned about the best choice of batteries. Let's first look at what kind of batteries mechanical fans should choose.

The principle of the mechanical mod is actually the container of the battery and the conductor of the current and can directly exert the maximum output capacity of the battery, so the requirements for the battery are higher.

With regard to mechanical poles, what players are most concerned about is safety. What happened to the mechanical accident? There are several reasons:

1. Low-quality battery without pressure relief valve.

2. The maximum continuous output current is too low, and the output current exceeds the standard when in use, causing the battery pressure to be too large, causing serious damage to the battery steel case. The internal material reacts with air to release a large amount of gas. When the pressure is high enough, it will " Open the wall of the mechanical rod and cause an accident. (In fact, there is no reason for the pressure relief valve, the battery will not automatically stop working)

3. If the battery breaks and causes the battery to short-circuit or contact with the shaft, a circuit is formed without passing the switch. The atomizer will automatically work. If the battery is not found for a long time, an accident may occur.

4. Some mechanical rod structural defects or unreasonable design can also lead to battery short circuit.

5. The atomizer electrode structure causes the battery to short circuit. (For example, a nebulizer with a positive or partially concave power supply and a mechanical rod without a positive post)

We can see that the basic cause of the accident is the battery. In order to ensure your basic safety, please use the battery produced by an established veteran at the international level, such as Panasonic, Sanyo, LG, Samsung, and Sony.

Then in addition to the use of qualified batteries, it is also necessary to pay attention to the battery output current should not exceed the standard (that is, atomizer resistance is too low and short circuit).

What standard battery should you use? We calculate according to the formula, voltage/resistance = current, so if you use 0.2Ω data, then it is 3.7/0.2=18.5A, if you use about 0.12Ω daily data, then it is 3.7/0.12=30.8A current Output, but the maximum continuous output current of genuine Sony C4 battery is stable at 30A, this data has slightly exceeded (novices in the parentheses bypass, because 30A is a steady continuous discharge current, so within a short time to reach 40A is also possible, but will affect Battery life, and the increase in battery internal resistance is also likely to cause safety hazards, so it is not recommended that the resistance be less than 0.12Ω).

The output of the mechanical pole is related to the resistance value. We calculate it by another formula, 3.72 / resistance = power, then 0.2 Ω resistance represents (3.7 * 3.7) / 0.2 = 68.45 W, and 0.14 Ω is 97.78W, we can determine how much resistance data to use based on our own smoke needs. After determining the resistance we need, we can use this resistance to select the battery. Since the capacity is inversely proportional to the maximum continuous output current, the smoke Low-volume, high-capacity batteries can be used when demand is low.

Tip: The existing battery technology has been difficult to make breakthroughs due to material influences, so when meeting a battery that claims to be more than 30A stable and continues to discharge, and the capacity exceeds 2500mah, friends must be more cautious in understanding the actual discharge curve of the battery and other performance. Avoid being deceived by "virtual standards."

Regarding the battery, there is also an important reference "discharge performance curve chart", which shows the discharge performance of the battery through the voltage drop curve and discharge duration when the battery is discharged at different currents.

Why do you say that? For example: If a battery can support a maximum discharge of 40A, but the actual test at 40A only 1-second voltage dropped from 4.2V to 3V, then the performance of this battery is obvious.

Tip:
A short circuit or excessive output current for a long time can cause scalding even if using a battery with a regular pressure relief valve. If the pressure relief valve does not work due to problems such as failure, it will still cause an accident.

Second, What kind of battery should pressure regulator equipment choose?

Voltage regulator equipment has a chip to regulate the output voltage and current. The battery requirements are lower than the mechanical mod with perfect protection measures. It does not mean that any battery can be chosen casually. After all, energy is conserved. Nothing can change or disappear in a vacuum.

When the load on the battery is too large, the voltage drops sharply. A lot of players have encountered this situation, that is, once you start to fire, the battery power level will dip. However, when the ignition key is released, the power is back. Why?

In fact, although the battery has a nominal voltage, but the output voltage is not always output in accordance with 3.7V, the discharge process is actually the process of gradually decreasing the battery voltage. To make an analogy, when you use a battery with a low discharge rate, it will open to 50W, the battery will not provide that much current, and the voltage will drop sharply, but after you release it, the battery stops outputting voltage and automatically picks up again.

So how do we choose the pressure regulating device battery? First of all, you need to know how much power you normally use, so that we can determine how much battery you need to stabilize the continuous discharge current, and then use this data to select the battery's capacity, in order to maximize the battery's performance.

For example: If you normally use 70W, the device is a single electricity host, in the use of the screen display voltage is 3.7V, then according to the formula power/voltage = current, we can come to 70/3.7 = 18.91A this value, Then you only need to use a battery with a maximum continuous discharge of 20A.

For "dual-powered" mods, it is divided into the common "series" and the infrequent "parallel" two forms: the series voltage is equal to the sum of all battery voltages, the current is equal to the current flowing through each battery, and the parallel voltage is equal to a single Battery voltage, current is equal to the sum of battery currents.

If you use a dual-electric series host, then the calculation is a little troublesome.  Although not strict but simple and practical, for the average user to use electronic cigarette is not engaged in scientific research and do physical problems with a simple calculation method.

Since the internal resistance of the battery is increased after the dual series connection. The maximum continuous discharge current of the original single cell battery should be discounted. We have made a conservative point and made a 70% discount, then the original 20A battery will become 14A.

Then we take a look at how to calculate the dual electric series host, still 70W. The screen shows a voltage of 3.7V because it is connected in series. The actual working voltage of the battery may be 7.4V. Then the actual battery output current is 9.459A. A single 20A battery can still support this current well.

I usually use 140W/4.2V, the dual electric operating current is 140/4.2=33.333333. The battery input device voltage may still be 7.4V and the actual battery output current is 18.9A. The demand current is greater than provide current, but it involves the problem of high voltage to low voltage to increase the current. We can roughly calculate it, and the maximum discharge of 30A is still a 70% discount is 21A. (Add a rule here because the battery is pressure regulating equipment. The actual output voltage is actually relatively fixed, so we can roughly calculate the required current, such as the highest power 200W dual-host, the maximum output voltage of the chip is 7.5V, then 200/7.5=26.66A, using a 30A battery is playing After the discount is 21A can barely achieve the effect of use)

If the used battery discharge is lower than the calculated result, the battery power will not be durable, and when the power display still has one-third, the battery voltage will be low and the set output power cannot be reached.

Tip: Don't use a skin-cut battery even if you use a voltage regulator with protection to avoid danger.

The selection of the battery is over here. Thank you for your support. If there are any omissions and mistakes in this article, please point out in the comments area. Thank you for watching!!
